Is your skin sick when you are?

Is your skin getting sick with you?

It sounds wild, but the skin takes a hard hit during any illness. That grey look, dry, scaly, and even plagued with cold sores, one look at your skin can make you feel worse if you catch a glimpse in the mirror. What is happening, and why does it show on my skin?

I know when you aren't feeling well that your skin is the last thing on your mind, but just like the rest of your body, your skin is getting sick too. The stress from illness affects every part of your body, and we can't leave the skin out on the need for extra care.

Stay Hydrated: Like your doctor telling you to "keep pushing fluids," as your esthetician, I need to tell you that we have to keep your skin hydrated. Drink water and use products designed to replenish your barrier (to help you avoid a chapped nose and lips, which can lead to additional infection). Use moisturizers rich in ceramides and calming hydration like Nutritive Cream from G.M. Collin

Keep that humidifier running: Keeping the air moist can prevent the skin from drying out and give your nose a little break. Just be sure your humidifier is clean! We suggest these mold deterring tank conditioners to help

Go Minimal : No need to go the extra mile with serums and age-stalling beautifiers. Now is the time to back away from your exfoliators and masks. Just give your skin some rest until you are feeling better + a few more days to reduce the risk of sensitivity.

No, you can't pop that! Illness of all sorts can dry the surface of your skin, making it necessary for more soothing creams that could aggravate your acne. If you need a safe, calming product for acne-prone skin Gräfin HydroGlow is the one for you.

A bit of last-minute advice:

  • Keep a fragrance-free hand cream by the bed to combat the overuse of hand sanitizers.
  • Keep those bathing times short. The longer you soak, the more weakened your skin can become. Try to keep it to just 10 minutes, please. Be sure to moisturize right after you get out with a mild, fragrance-free cream.
  • If you're headed to the doctor, make sure you pop on some SPF 🙂

Hope you feel better soon! xoxo
