Do you need different products at night?
We are often asked if you need to have a different moisturizer at night vs the day and the answer is “No, but.”
The reason we say you can use the same products for AM and PM is that day creams shouldn’t include SPF in them. When SPF is added to your day creams it cuts the ability for the moisturizer to work because sunscreens are designed to sit on top whereas moisturizers need to penetrate the skin's upper layer to work. This is why it is always recommended to use a separate sunscreen over your moisturizer (and as a bonus it allows you to use the same moisturizer day and night).
BUT, there are night creams containing ingredients that we don’t want on our skin during the day. These night-only ingredients include Retinol, AHAs and BHAs because they can make the skin very sensitive when exposed to UV.
There are also some newer ingredients that help with skin repair, like Batchukol and melatonin, that work with the skin’s circadian rhythm and aren’t nearly as effective when used during waking hours. So be sure to use these at night too.
