Eco-Friendly Skincare

I like to look at how eco-friendly my skincare is with Earth Day (April 22) right around the corner. There are always ways to be more green, and we can all teach each other tricks to help our planet.

Some easy eco-friendly natural swaps you can do to get glowing skin:
  • Microbead Scrubs don’t biodegrade and have been found clogging up our waterways and even inside fish! Clean up the planet and your face by swapping to scrubs that use natural exfoliants like rice powder or jojoba beads.
  • Palm Oil has become a bit of a darling in the natural skincare and health food markets, but it’s one of the main causes of deforestation in Asia, contributes to greenhouse gasses and the destruction of the only remaining Orangutan habitat. (Learn more at redapes.org)
  • Face wipes are great when you are traveling, but when you are at home try to make less of an environmental impact by using bamboo microfiber mitts or wash clothes rather than one-time use clothes.
  • Hydroquinone, a very effective skin lightener, has been linked to cancer in several studies. Swap this with similarly effective botanical formulas that contain bearberry, licorice, and Indian gooseberry.

The skincare industry, with all the benefits that come from botanicals, has a real responsibility to the planet because after all, even the scientific formulas started as petals and herbs.

I would love to hear what are you doing to be more green?
