Hydrate with Infused Waters

I’m always talking to people about how important hydration is to the skin to keep it glowing and functioning properly. The modern world is so stressful on the body with all the heaters, air conditioners, caffeinated beverages, cocktails, late nights, early mornings and oh man can I make a list! What we don’t do is take the time to relax and enjoy the simple things like water.

I will be perfectly honest; I am not a good water drinker. I will be amazing at getting my ounces in for about four hours. Then I get caught up in what I am doing and BOOM! Off the wagon, and trying to get in my daily H2O by convincing myself that Starbucks uses water to make my Very Berry Refresher. It’s not that I’m a terrible person, it’s that I don’t like the taste of water, or at least I’m not drawn to it. I guess based on many of the skins I’ve seen; I’m not alone in this.

This month of may I’m going to try to switch my thinking. I will start drinking more water by making water taste good and maybe even add some extra benefits to my body and skin as well. I found a beautiful one from DetoxDiy.com that I will be trying first. I hope you will join me in a glass and maybe share your favorite water recipes with me as well.

GRAPEFRUIT, LEMON, AND SAGE INFUSED WATER
by Ana-Maria
INGREDIENTS
1 Small Organic Pink Grapefruit, cut into thin slices
1/2 Organic Lemon, cut into thin slices
5-6 Sage Leaves, crushed to release their oils
4 Cups Purified Water
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Add all ingredients to a pitcher, stir, cover and allow to infuse in the refrigerator overnight.
2. If not using organic fruits, remove the peel before adding them to infuse in your water, to avoid any pesticides.

Besides the flavor, I liked this recipe because the ingredients themselves offer great benefits.  As you know, citrus provides incredible antioxidant protection for the body and immune system, but Grapefruit* also boosts collagen production making the skin more plump and supple. Grapefruit also contains Naringin, which is known to break down toxins in the liver which also results in healthier skin.  Lemons are an excellent source of potassium and have 22 anti-cancer compounds found in them. Sage is a natural anti-inflammatory, improves blood circulation and stimulates cell turnover.  Of course, there are many additional benefits to these ingredients, but I’m just trying to get us to drink more water. ~Cheers, Katt

*It is important to make sure to skip the Grapefruit if you are taking any medications that react with it.*
